Tell me a story.
In this century, and moment, of mania,
Tell me a story.
Make it a story of great distances, and starlight.
The name of the story will be Time,
But you must not pronounce its name.
Tell me a story of deep delight.
— Robert Penn Warren, "Poetry"
Hi! We’re Rohan and Allahyar and we’re the writers behind Mortimus.
Mortimus is a publication that explores the interconnections between investing, the art of learning and the interplay between finance and technology.
But it’s so much more.
We started Mortimus because we felt that the talks we were having with each other were far too precious not to be shared.
At heart, we’re researchers and storytellers, hoping to make sense of an increasingly complex world. We’re students of finance and computing. But we’re also students of the art of learning. In fact, one of our core obsessions is figuring out the best methods to gain a deeper understanding of technical topics, and then applying them. It’s where we thrive.
To be honest, Mortimus is an experiment. It’s more akin to a chef’s kitchen than an actual publication. It’s where we practice our craft, and figure out ways to tell stories that we think need to be told. We could be discussing the influences of our favourite director in one piece, and the nuances of valuing a tech company in the next.
Why the diverse range? Because we’re human and in the words of Walt Whitman: we contain multitudes.
But more so, Mortimus exists because it is a place where we can unabashedly be ourselves. We believe in the magic of having myriad identities, and this is the perfect place to explore them all. We want Mortimus to be a stronghold against the atomization of society, a place where Equipoise is the core tenet. It is this ability to move gracefully between our identities that we want to foster.
We hope you join us on our journey.
